SILENT HILL Townfall Getting Started in St. Amelia

What SILENT HILL: Townfall is, how long it lasts, and how to survive the opening hours.

Getting Started

SILENT HILL: Townfall is a first-person psychological horror game set in 1996 on the fictional Scottish island of St. Amelia. You play as Simon Ordell, who wakes near the docks with an IV bag, a medical wristband, and almost no reliable memory of why he is there. A voice asks him to come back and “put things right.” The streets look empty. The fog is not.

This page is the onboarding guide for an upcoming release. Konami set the worldwide date as September 24, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Digital Deluxe pre-orders start 48 hours earlier on September 22. Steam’s store card may read September 23 because of timezone. Treat that as a listing quirk, not a second launch. For storefronts and bonuses, jump to editions and the release date page.

What you are actually buying

Townfall is a standalone spin-off, not a remake of Silent Hill 1–4 and not a sequel that expects you to quote Pyramid Head lore. Konami and Screen Burn (the Glasgow studio formerly called No Code) have repeated that the campaign is self-contained. If you arrive from the Silent Hill 2 remake or Silent Hill f, you will recognize analog dread, multiple endings, and an Otherworld that stains the town red. You will not get tank controls or a third-person camera. Screen Burn’s previous games — Stories Untold and Observation — were first-person, and the handheld CRTV made a first-person view a design requirement rather than a gimmick.

The game is single-player. There is single-player only, no online hunt, and no Roblox-style code sheet. If a search result promised “Townfall codes,” it was looking at a different product. This wiki does not track gift codes because the retail game does not use them.

How a first night should feel

Preview sessions ran two to four hours. Several writers noted that you cannot even sprint at the very start; running is handed over during the prologue. That is the tone. Townfall wants you slow, listening, and a little lost. Interactable objects are marked when you are close enough to notice them, but the real puzzles are about connecting signals, rooms, and people — not about spotting a glowing prompt.

Difficulty in the preview build had three combat/survival settings — Story, Normal, and Nightmare — plus a separate puzzle-hint toggle (hints on or normal). Default for most press was Normal with hints on. If you want the classic Silent Hill feeling of being under-equipped, stay on Normal or Nightmare and read how to survive before you turn hints off.

Simon is fragile. Japanese preview coverage put him at roughly four or five hits before a game over, with early firearms carrying only a handful of rounds. Wooden planks break. Bottles and bricks are for stunning or luring, not for farming a room. Phone boxes in footage act as save points. If you see a phone, use it.

The four systems you must understand

CRTV. The pocket television is the radio, the radar, the diary, and a puzzle tool. Tune it to find story fragments, see silhouettes through fog, and sometimes broadcast noise that pulls a creature off a hallway. Gyro on DualSense is used to fine-tune weak signals. Full detail is on the CRTV guide.

Peek and hide. Hold peek (L1 in DualSense previews) over fences, cars, and doorframes. Closets, sheds, and half-open doors are chase exits. If something sees you, the correct first instinct is a hiding spot, not a swing. Pair this page with combat and stealth.

Melee, then guns. Block with L2, strike with R2 when the opening appears. Enemies do not drop in one hit. A revolver shows up later in preview sections; ammo is scarce enough that gyro aiming is worth turning on. Some threats cannot be fought. The footage and Konami’s own copy both say evasion is sometimes the only option.

Narrative puzzles. Elevators, radios, and rooms that “should not connect” are how St. Amelia talks. Do not treat them as optional side content. They are how you learn who Zoe is and why Richard called Simon home. The puzzles page and the Shorefront walkthrough unpack the rooms already shown.

Length, endings, and how to play the first week

A first clear is estimated at 10 to 14 hours. Stealth-heavy, thorough players sit on the long end. There are five endings. Three are reachable on a first playthrough. Two wait in New Game+. Endings are not a last-second dialogue pick; they accumulate from how aggressively you fight, how completely you search, and how you handle encounters. Keep that in the back of your head, then forget it until you finish. The endings overview stays spoiler-light until launch.

PC players should confirm system requirements before launch week: Windows 11, DirectX 12, 75 GB, SSD required, 16 GB RAM minimum. PS5 has Quality (30 fps) and Performance (60 fps) modes, with DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers, and optional motion aiming.

A practical first-hour checklist

  1. Confirm your edition and platform on editions.
  2. Learn buttons on controls. Enable gyro if you are on DualSense.
  3. Pick up the CRTV when the opening hands it to you and stay on the CRTV guide until tuning feels physical, not like a menu.
  4. Walk Shorefront with the walkthrough open in a second tab if you get stuck in Zoe’s house or the tenement.
  5. When a creature appears, default to hide. Fight only if a door is gone. How to survive is the short version of that rule.

After the first night, the rest of the wiki is character and news, not more tutorials. Meet the cast on the characters hub, then keep updates bookmarked through September 24. Official channels are listed on links.

Townfall is not trying to make you powerful. It is trying to make you pay attention. If you leave this page with only one habit, make it this: look at the CRTV before you look at the street.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for launch week and first-person survival.

Can I play Townfall without other Silent Hill games?

Yes. Konami calls it a self-contained spin-off. Series knowledge helps with tone, not with plot locks. Start here, then the CRTV guide.

Is there multiplayer or online play?

No. Townfall is single-player only on PS5 and PC. There is no two-player display and no online multiplayer.

How long is the story?

Preview briefings say about 10 to 14 hours for a first playthrough. Five endings exist; see the endings overview.

What difficulty should I pick?

Press defaulted to Normal with puzzle hints on. Use Story if combat friction is the problem, Nightmare if you want fewer safety nets. Details sit in how to survive.

Where do I pre-order?

PlayStation Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Compare bonuses on editions before you pay.
